Operation: Vegetarian 2006
I just realized that my shirt is see-through, of sorts. As I dried my hands off in the bathroom, it became abundantly clear, when looking in the mirror, that the flesh-color radiating from under my blue shirt was flesh. I must look like one of those jackasses who wears mesh shirts to show off his nipple ring.

I'll be giving up meat soon, over a long period, though. I'm really bad with the different terminology for animals before and after they're cooked, so pardon my lack of culinary know-how and mingling of Disney & Warner Brothers characters. Here's my schedule:

July 25 2004: Cattle (cow, buffalo?)

December 25 2004: Pig, Sheep, Game [stuff I don't eat anyway] (deer, rabbit)

July 25 2005: Poultry (chicken, turkey) and Waterfowl (duck, goose)

December 25 2005: Seafood (fish, shrimp, crab, lobster, oysters, etc.)

(all dates subject to change, most likely earlier)

What other types of edible animals am I missing? And I'm not talking about primates, canids, insects, etc.

O my gosh, you're so funny...

But you forgot to cross out the baby.

I have a strong distaste for ground beef. Burgers, meatballs, and any variations of those make me gag.
Just remember to replace the meat you're not eating with proper amounts of protein from other non-meat things, like soy products and stuff. Some people forget to do that and then they DIE.

bravo to you! i've been a vegetarian for a few years but lately i've been way too lax, meaning i've not been a vegetarian at all. i see that changing very shortly because i feel like a horrible murderer. I respect your choice to do it gradually, but over a year? I dunno, when I started I quit cold turkey (ha ha) and was fine. Do you like shrimpies that much?

I knew I should have used the cold turkey joke! At least you did.

Looking at it, a year (and a half!) does seem like a bit much. As I said, I'll probably bump the schedule up a bit. I just know that I want to have 'last hurrahs" of eating different meat. I want one last Whopper, some chicken nuggets, Jerk chicken, a steak, a lobster, some shrimp, some bacon, etc. I probably could give my my lust for these foods by the end of the year, but I'll make it next year...just to be safe.

I've been throwing around the idea of becoming a Vegemite for some months. I've cut down on the amount of meat i eat, but havnt eliminated it completely, which is probably as far as Ill get. All things in moderation you know.

Vegetarianism and even the raw-foods diet are so appealing. I feel like I consume nothing but artificial junk all the time. Time to get back to nature.

And, as far as the lab goes, I'll start to talk to my boss about fall hiring...

dude,

if you're going to be vegetarian, you must know the secret. everyone thinks it's tofu, but really it's NUTRITIONAL YEAST! and i don't think becoming a vegetarian means you are going to automatically have a healthy diet, but you know that. are you still going to be friends with cheese and milk? do you have an answer prepared to why you are becoming a vegetarian (to give countless times to your relatives at every family function)?

and, i'm trying to reach you to see when i should come in today. email or call me when you get this.

You're defining your diet in negatives, you know.

I've been a pseudo-veg (a very infrequent pescatarian, if you want to be nerdy-strict) for the last six years. But...you're in France! Holy shit! France! Have some good baguettes and wine and good fresh fruit and pastries or I will personally telepathically kick the shit out of you. Cheese is optional, but demonstrates sincerity. Come on!

Worry about the meat and fish later. Though, personally, for someone living in a nation that has occupied Vietnam, I would seek out some Bánh Mì ASAP.

Also, Anthony Bourdain wants me to remind you that in most of the third world (such as Cambodia), a vegetarian lifestyle is a ridiculously priviledged pipe dream. Just saying.
